From June 8th to September 7th, 2024, you'll have the unique opportunity to travel by night train along Italy's Adriatic coast all the way to Ancona. This allows you to visit not only the elegant capital of the Marche region, but also the popular seaside resorts of Rimini, Riccione, and Cattolica.
During this period, the line to Rome will be limited due to construction works, presenting this unique opportunity to take the night train to these destinations.
The Journey
You can travel to Ancona and Rimini from Munich and Vienna. In Villach (Austria), the carriages will be joined and continue further into Italy. You'll arrive in Rimini at 7:35 AM and Ancona at 9 AM. The return train departs from Ancona at 9:15 PM and from Rimini at 10:27 PM—which is quite late compared to other ÖBB night connections and may be more complicated for passengers with small children. The train arrives in Vienna a few minutes before 9 AM and in Munich before 10 AM.

What is the train journey like?
If you decide to travel to Ancona or Rimini by train, you'll have three different travel options:
- Seat: The most budget-friendly option, suitable for those who prioritize affordability.
- Couchette: A mid-priced option offering more space and privacy than seats, divided into 4 or 6-berth compartments.
- Sleeper Cabin: The most luxurious and expensive option, with various configurations (single, double, or triple occupancy) and amenities like a shower and breakfast.
How much do tickets cost and where to buy them?
Tickets can be purchased at Austrian Railways (ÖBB) and Czech Railways (ČD) ticket offices and online shops. Advance ticket sales start 180 days before the departure date, giving you ample time to plan your trip. However, prices are contingent, meaning that a limited number of tickets are available for each price level. Booking early increases your chances of securing a lower fare.

Cancellation Policy
- Sparschiene Discount Tickets: These tickets cannot be returned or exchanged! The ticket is valid only for the person whose name appears on the ticket and is non-transferable.
- Other Tickets: Cancellation is free of charge up to 15 days before the validity date. After that, up to the day before the first day of validity, a cancellation fee of 50% of the ticket price per person applies, with a minimum of 15 euros.
