By Train to La Spezia: A Scenic Journey Along the Italian Riviera
By Train to La Spezia in 2024
The ÖBB Nightjet, which you can also use for your trip to Milan, will take you to the Ligurian Sea coast - to Genoa and La Spezia. You can then head to the surrounding tourist destinations, such as Cinque Terre or Portovenere. This is a novelty - the extension of the route from Milan to the Italian coast.
As with the other night trains operated by the Austrian ÖBB, you have comfortable sleeping and couchette cars, as well as seating cars, at your disposal. Connections are operated daily.

What is the train journey like?
If you decide to travel to La Spezia by train, you will have three different travel options to choose from. The cheapest option is to travel in a seat, which is suitable for those who do not need extra comfort. The medium-priced option is to travel in a couchette car, which is divided into 4 and 6-seater compartments. These couchette cars are not equipped with a shower, but they provide a relatively sufficient amount of space for passengers. The most luxurious and expensive option is travel in a sleeping car, where you can choose between a 3-bed, double or single bed. These sleeping cars are equipped with a shower and also provide a great breakfast for passengers.
How much do tickets cost and where to buy them?
Tickets can be purchased not only at the ticket offices and the e-shop of the Austrian Railways (ÖBB), but also at the eShop of Czech Railways (ČD). Advance ticket sales start 180 days before the departure date, so there is plenty of time to plan your trip. BUT – prices are contingent, meaning that the number of tickets is determined for each price level. This means that the sooner you buy your ticket, the higher the chance of a lower price.
