Switzerland by train
For those seeking an eco-friendly travel option, Czech Railways (České dráhy) operates two nightly train connections to Switzerland. Both depart from Prague around the same time and arrive in Zurich at similar times. However, each connection takes a different route – one via Austria and the other via Germany. The return journey differs, with the train via Germany departing Zurich earlier and arriving in Prague earlier. Additionally, the connection via Austria is significantly cheaper.
The connection via Austria offers the option of a sleeper car. The train also includes a restaurant car (between Prague and Linz) operated by JLV, where you can enjoy excellent food and drinks. This train departs Prague at 18:21 and arrives in Zurich at 8:20. The return journey from Zurich departs at 21:40 and arrives in Prague at 10:39 the following day. Prices including a bed start from just under 1400 CZK.
The connection via Germany offers greater flexibility in travel options, with sleeper, couchette, and seating carriages available. Like the previous option, this train also includes a restaurant car (between Prague and Leipzig). This train departs Prague at 18:25 and arrives in Zurich at 10:08. The return journey from Zurich departs at 19:59 and arrives in Prague at 9:38. Prices start from 1700 CZK for a seat and from 2200 CZK for a bed.
